The Texture Says It All

Texture is such an important thing for me in order to enjoy my food. I don’t know how to explain it, but something about that gooey texture doesn’t sit right with me. For example, bananas. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t absolutely hate them. But I definitely wouldn’t choose a banana as a snack. Same goes for yogurt, mashed potatoes, pudding, and anything less than medium cooked meat. Weird right? My tastebuds just cannot accept anything that would be described as “mushy” in my mouth. Big no no. If put in a situation where I have to eat these foods, I take it very slowly. Like I’m talking the smallest possible bit at a time to make sure I don’t automatically spit it out. I would simply much rather chew my food. We have teeth for a reason after all. This dislike for soft foods started at a young age. I distinctly remember in elementary school when my mom bought Gogurts for the first time. Those long, cylinder like tubes filled with yogurt started it all. My friends would down those things in about 20 seconds. Me on the other hand, would take an entire lunch period sipping on it just to get it down. Needless to say, I didn't pack Gogurts very often for lunch. I would have similar experiences with pudding and bananas. Eventually, I thought I would grow out of it, being as I’m an adult now and should be able to eat like one. However, to this day I cannot eat anything “mushy”. And I’ve just given up trying.
